Bortolotti takes emphatic Spa pole
Mirko Bortolotti claimed his second Formula 2 pole position of the season with an emphatic display in a wet first qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps. The Italian, whose previous pole was followed up by a race win at Silverstone, was the only driver to dip into the 2m33s bracket, leaving him more than 1.3 seconds clear of the rest of the field. Torrential rain in the morning ensured the track remained wet throughout qualifying, but it gradually improved during the session and Bortolotti took full advantage, waiting until the final 10 minutes to make his charge

Casey Stoner said he settled for a finish in the Dutch Grand Prix as soon as he saw that main title rival Jorge Lorenzo had been involved in a collision. Bianchi tops Valencia GP2 practice
Jules Bianchi set the pace in GP2 free practice with his final lap of the session on the streets of Valencia. The ART driver came out on top of effectively a one-lap shootout, which was created when the session restarted after a red flag with only three minutes remaining. Championship leader Romain Grosjean went into the final flurry at the top of the timesheets, where he had been since usurping series returnee Christian Vietoris (Racing Engineering) after nine minutes.

Felipe Massa says Ferrari is not pinning its title hope beliefs solely on the fact that changes to the way teams can use blown diffusers from the British Grand Prix could mix up the order at the front of the field. Simoncelli fastest amid Honda crashes
Marco Simoncelli was fastest again in the extended Friday morning practice session at Assen - while all three factory Honda team riders had big crashes in quick succession. In the space of just two minutes during the riders' opening runs, first Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso had violent high-sides at the De Bult left-hander, then their temporary team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama did likewise at the left-hand part of Ruskenhoek. While Stoner was able to quickly get back to the pits and rejoin on his spare bike, Dovizioso and Aoyama both required trips to the medical centre for checks before they were cleared to continue - Dovizioso having been taking away by stretcher initially and a limping Aoyama needing help from the marshals.

Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon put Ganassi first and second in IndyCar morning practice at the Milwaukee Mile. The duo set their best times early on their opening runs of the day, and remained out of the competition's reach for the rest of the hour. Tony Kanaan had a strong run for KV Racing in third place, with Helio Castroneves the top Penske driver in fourth and Ryan Hunter-Reay Andretti Autosport's lead runner in fifth.

Kurt Busch claims third pole in a row
Kurt Busch claimed his third consecutive pole position of the season in qualifying for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan. The Penske driver also made it four in a row for his outfit, counting Brad Keselowski's pole position for the Coke 600 at Charlotte last month. Duval: Fifth was best possible result
France's Loic Duval is satisfied that the fifth place he took alongside Nicolas Lapierre and Olivier Panis was the best possible result for the #10 Team ORECA Matmut Peugeot. The all-French line up ended the race 16 laps down on the race winning #2 Audi R18, but had kept touch with the leaders in the opening hours of the race until two accidents caused lengthy delays.

Andre Lotterer has taken over the lead #2 Audi R18 from Benoit Treluyer for the final run to the chequered flag, leading Peugeot's Sebastien Bourdais by 18 seconds.
