Rob Huff led a Chevrolet lockout of the front row in World Touring Car Championship qualifying at Zolder today. Bowyer optimistic on new RCR deal
Clint Bowyer is optimistic he will remain part of Richard Childress Racing's driver line-up in 2012, despite his contract being up at the end of the year. Bowyer, a Chase contender for three of the past five seasons, expects negotiations with his team to unfold positively as he looks to continue with the team he has raced since his NASCAR debut in the Nationwide Series in 2004. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were handed 20-second penalties following the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. The McLaren driver, who endured a difficult race and finished in seventh position, was handed the penalty for making more than one move to defend his position when fighting with Alonso. Ferrari driver Alonso was given the penalty after he made contact with Hamilton during their fight, the Spaniard damaging his front wing and having to pit to replace it.

The operation, performed at the Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona, was carried out in order to release the arterial compression, with the titanium plate and the screws fixed to Pedrosa's collarbone removed

Trulli pleased with Pirelli?s tyres
Jarno Trulli said he was actually quite happy with the behaviour of Pirelli's tyres during the Australian Grand Prix, despite some criticism of them after the event. The Italian said after the Melbourne race that he was "shocked" by how much the tyres have changed since winter testing. "The most important thing to be said is that every result this weekend, whether positive or negative, has a common cause: the Pirelli tyres," Trulli wrote in his column for Repubblica newspaper.

Mark Webber remained fastest in the second free practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix as Red Bull continued to look the class of the field in Sepang, but this time the team was run closer by Jenson Button's McLaren. The top four drivers were covered by less than 0.250s, as Webber's 1m36.876s - on Pirelli's Option - proved to be the quickest lap of the day, set just after halfway through the 90 minutes and in response to Sebastian Vettel's 1m37.090s.

Jamie McMurray made it two pole positions in a row for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after setting the fastest time in qualifying for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville. Kits for the latest incarnation of Mitsubishi Lancer rally car has been homologated by the FIA and is reckoned to be as much as half a second per kilometer faster than the Group N car it supersedes. The R4 version of the Lancer has been developed on behalf of Mitsubishi by British firm MML Sports Ltd - the Rugby-based company which has its roots in the hugely successful squad which collected five world titles between 1996 and 1999. The official kit to convert a Lancer into an R4 is expected to be available by the middle of this month, with the car likely to make its international debut on next month's Rally d'Italia.

MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo believes he can take the fight to the dominant Hondas as the series moves to Jerez this weekend. The Yamaha rider finished a strong second in the last round at Qatar, beating Honda's Dani Pedrosa into third place, despite voicing his pessimism after struggling in pre-season testing. Sauber seeks answers on wing design
Sauber will conduct a detailed investigation at its factory into how its rear wing failed to comply with the technical regulations at the Australian Grand Prix, before it decides whether to keep pressing ahead with its appeal. The Swiss-based team has submitted its intention to appeal against the disqualifications of Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi from the Melbourne event for a rear wing breach. The rear wings did not comply with Articles 3.10.1 and 3.10.2 of the F1 Technical Regulations that demands wing parts do not have 'a local concave radius of curvature smaller than 100mm.' This addition to the F1 regulations was introduced this year to prevent teams from running F-duct type systems.
